Scotland has regulated single malt whisky for decades. America didn't. Any bourbon or blend could put "single malt" on a label and mean whatever the marketing team wanted.
That changed in 2025. American single malt became an official federal category for the first time. Three rules: one distillery, 100% malted barley, aged in oak.
This bottle meets all three. 100% malted barley, one distillery, and 4 to 8 years in oak, with the real range disclosed.
We're not claiming a decades-old tradition here. The category is new. What's checkable is the mash bill, the age range, and the fact that it was made to the new federal definition from the start.
We don't own a still or a rickhouse. That means we're not under pressure to move young barrels before they're ready. Even in a brand new category, nobody's forcing our hand.
Distilleries in this new category have production costs running daily. We don't carry that overhead, so we're not rushed to bottle early.
Aging malted barley in oak for 4 to 8 years costs money to store. We're not the ones paying that bill every year it sits.
If a barrel isn't there yet, we pass. There's no younger stock we're stuck selling instead, so publishing the real age costs us nothing.
Mash bill, age, and the category rules, all laid out so you can verify it.

4 to 8 years is a range across barrels, not one cask. The youngest is 4 years old, so the floor is real, not rounded up.
From The Whisky Study's published review.
“The nose starts off light, with apples, floral notes, then hits you with a heavy dose of dark chocolate and coffee.”
“the finish was a standout”

You know someone who reaches for single malt Scotch out of habit and hasn't tried what America's new category rules actually produce.
100% malted barley, 4 to 8 years, scored 85 by The Whisky Study. Built to the same kind of federal definition Scotch has had for decades, just newly written here.
If they've already got a full bar cart of bourbon, this is the bottle they don't have yet.
